The Glencoe Marathon. My current mad challenge. Entering was a good idea at the time.
I’ll complete this 26.2mile race a week before my 26th birthday! hopefully…
I’ve grown up knowing lots of amazing runners who do these big epic races (& bigger). My dad once ran the West Highland Way in 2 1/2 days, so I’ve got a strong trail to follow.
The race begins just outside of Glencoe village, heading south down the glen before picking up along the West Highland Way until you reach Glen Nevis. It looks like an interesting route!
Over the past 12 weeks or so, I’ve been building up my training and today was my last big long run. I completed 20 miles from Balmaha to Milngavie, including the steep climb up the side of Conic Hill. I have figured out exactly what to wear on race day (important to ensure I avoid blisters, wedgies or my pack rubbing my shoulders) and I have a rough plan for fueling up along the route.
With three weeks to go, my long distance runs are starting to reduce in distance, and I’m looking forward to giving my legs some time to recover before race day.
I’ll update with pre-race nerves in the week leading up to the event, but in the meantime, any tips tricks or motivational tunes to stick on my playlist would be much appreciated!
